About the Role

Boston University Admissions seeks an Assistant Director. This individual will represent the University at programs both on- and off-campus while managing a recruitment territory. The Assistant Director will holistically review and evaluate applications for admissions, participate in the admissions committee process, and identify potential scholarship candidates. This individual will participate in the efforts to build a strong and diverse applicant pool and commit to principles of antiracism, diversity, equity, and inclusion in the college search and application process. This position participates in evening and weekend work for most of the calendar year. It also requires traveling, often for days or weeks at a time. The Assistant Director will build strong professional relationships with students, parents, high school counselors, and community-based organizations to generate interest in Boston University. This individual will also work directly with colleagues throughout the Enrollment & Student Administration unit, as well as Boston University's schools and colleges, and other University offices and departments.

The Assistant Director's primary duties include:

  • Development, planning, and implementation of recruitment activities that will ensure a strong applicant pool and an incoming class rich in ethnic, geographic, cultural, academic, and socioeconomic diversity;
  • Persuasively communicate the value and benefits of a BU education through in-person and virtual presentations;
  • Reviewing candidates for freshman and transfer admissions from an applicant pool of 80,000. Thoroughly analyzing and evaluating academic credentials to identify students most competitive for admission;
  • Engaging in committee deliberations to finalize admissions decisions, and;
  • Counseling students, parents, and counselors regarding admissions decisions.

  • A Bachelor's degree is a requirement for this position.
  • A valid driver's license and CORI background check are also required.
  • Ideally, we are seeking a candidate who:
    • Has three to five years of directly related experience;
    • Exhibits strong public speaking skills, and;
    • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
