The Eastern Region of the Division of Local Engagement and Support is currently seeking a Regional Director. This position is a senior manager position that reports to the Director of Local Engagement and Support. The RD will provide a regular state presence to local leadership including Directors, government officials, community partners and local DSS Boards representing the mission, vision, values, and strategies of the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS). The RD serves as a liaison between local leaders and VDSS program and support functions to foster collaboration and ensure optimal administration of social services programs/initiatives to the Commonwealth. The RD provides direction and guidance to a team of professional and administrative regional office staff that provides program oversight, consultation, monitoring, analysis of performance, and training to local departments. The RD works in partnership with agency division managers to ensure the effective implementation of agency programs and operations. The RD directs the day-to-day operations of the regional office including budget, staffing, facility and fiscal management and communication.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Human Services, Organizational Leadership, Business Administration, or a related degree, or a combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • Considerable knowledge of the Commonwealth’s state supervised, locally administered social services system with the ability to:
    • Develop and sustain trust relationships with people at all levels.
    • Demonstrate and create a culture of collaboration, innovation and empowerment.
    • Communicate relevant information accurately and timely in a manner in which it is easily understood.
    • Lead professional staff, administration and budget
    • Optimize organizational effectiveness and operations.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Public Administration, Human Services, Organizational Leadership, Business Administration, or a related degree, or a combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • Management experience in a state or local human services environment.
  • Proficiency in Google, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.
